The second book in the trilogy. Did just enough to keep me entertained, but it also very much felt like a middle-book-in-a-trilogy type of story.
My first book by Enriquez. Latin American horror that works through human emotion rather than jump scares, but an uneven collection where the highs don’t make up for the more forgettable stories.
I mentally gave up on this on my first read, giving it one star. My second attempt, however, made me realize how much of a technical masterpiece this book really is.
Gothic, eerie, and close in feel to a survival horror game. The ending arrives too fast, but I’d still hand this to anyone in a reading slump.
A re-read to finally finish the trilogy. Lyra holds up, Mrs. Coulter is the kind of character I love in books, and Iorek Byrnison is still the coolest character in the book.
The hardest book I’ve actually loved. Shifting timelines, poetic prose, and with a heavy historical context. Loved it, I’ll read it again.
